village hall meeting 3rd July

I’m a bit late posting this as we have had another meeting since then, items of interest;

  • Duncan Thomas reported that the total amount so far donated, including pledges, stands at approximately £44,000. He has reported £39,000 in the latest “update” pamphlet. £500 has been received from the PCC.
  • The Big Society grant application was successful, with an offer of £12,000 subject to conditions. DT will clarify the requirements regarding tenders.
  • Applications are now being invited for grants from the wind-farm. Alison Courtney suggested that we should request a maximum of £10,000 and has asked Alastair Macorkindale to complete the form. Applications need to be in by mid-August. AC felt that this money would be useful for refurbishment such as new chairs, curtains etc but DT pointed out that our application would be a lower priority than those of people directly inconvenienced by the wind-farm work. It was suggested that we should, as a courtesy, inform the Parish Council of our application. DT thanked AC for her work on this.
  • DT has obtained a quote for printing the Bale Christmas Card from Newprint. It was proposed that we discuss at the next meeting how we could make the project work financially.

Tractor Run 18.9.16 – Margaret Dent distributed leaflets at the Gt Snoring Tractor Run and there was some interest shown in taking part. The event will begin at 9.30, with tea/coffee and bacon rolls for sale at the Hall and will finish in the afternoon with tea/coffee and cake.

  • AC suggested that, if the event is successful, it could be an annual fixture for maintenance fundraising.
  • Paula Moore will advertise the Barbecue, Tractor Run and Harvest Supper in the next edition of the Local Lynx.
  • The “Grand Draw” raffle to be discussed at the next meeting.

Redevelopment

  • DT will obtain quotes for Phase 1 (or possibly Phases 1 & 2) when planning conditions have been fulfilled.
  • It was felt that it was not appropriate to rush the work on the hard-standing area in order to have it ready for this year’s summer barbecue. Decisions need to be made re. materials and drainage issues before this can go ahead.
  • Phase 4 – AC has prepared a list of additional repairs and renovation works which need to be considered once the major building work is finished. This was discussed and it was agreed that some of the items would be covered in Phases 1-2. An annotated copy of the list is attached.

Trade Waste

  • AC had compiled a list of options, with costs, to make the Village Hall compliant with Council regulations on waste disposal. It was decided that Option 1 would be most suitable and AC will call the Council to arrange. (I think this is normal waste bins)

(I would like to point out that with regard to the windfarm, we were indeed directly inconvenienced as the road through Bale to the coast was closed for three weeks last August, and many lorries and large boats came down Sharrington road and Clip street and could not pass other traffic coming in the opposite direction. never mind the ugly diggings which have now been open for eighteen months, and the diesel engines running night and day within earshot of houses to pump water out of them)
