With the glorious summer weather we’ve been having, it
has been great to make use of the outdoor space at the Hall
for a drink before the fish & chips arrive, or a more leisurely
beer/glass of wine/gin & tonic at the Bale Oak Bar.
We now keep our fingers crossed that the sun will still be shining on
us on August Bank Holiday weekend, when we not only
have the bar open on Friday 22nd but also have the annual
barbecue on Sunday 24th. No doubt Alastair, John and their
army of sous-chefs will be providing a delicious bite or two
for the bargain price of £15 – please don’t forget to reserve
your place as this event is usually a sell-out. It is a 6pm start
and bring your own drinks. You can book via the village
WhatsApp or call/text 07793 214703
We have another double treat weekend at the end of
September, with the Bale Oak Bar on Friday 26th, followed
by Mr Ragu’s Pasta Club on Saturday 27th. More details
will follow nearer the time from Mr Ragu himself (aka
Gino) on the village WhatsApp.
Talking of the Bale Oak Bar, thanks are due to Fiona for
all her hard work in stocking up, setting up and often acting
as barmaid-in-chief. It seems that a pleasant tradition has
begun for the hard drinkers (or latecomers) who are there at
the end of the evening to clear away the tables and chairs,
leaving the hall neat and tidy for the Saturday morning yoga
session. Excellent teamwork. The bar is generally open on
the 4th Friday of the month from 6.30-9.30pm.
Of course, the 2nd Friday of the month is Fish & Chips
night – orders via WhatsApp by 5pm. Subject to the
availability of the “chefs” there may be a “Fish Pie & Peas”
option, for which orders need to be in by Wednesday
evening. The dates for the coming months are 8th August
and 12th September. The 100 Club draw takes place at Fish
& Chips and it’s not too late to get involved for the next
year. The annual subscription is £12 per entry, which puts
you in the draw for cash prizes of up to £25 each every
month. Please contact Anne Peppitt if you would like to join
in, or to renew your existing subscription. You would be
helping to keep our village hall running and in good repair,
to the benefit of us all.
Some of the regular activities will be taking a break in
August, so if you are interested in painting, yoga or pilates,
please check WhatsApp for information or call/text
07793 214703.
